spring forward into cycling

The snow is melting and spring is just around the corner. It’s time to wake up your bike from its winter hibernation and spring forward into cycling. Before going out and riding, there are some things that can help you transition smoothly into the new season. We at Utah Bicycle Lawyers have a few suggestions. This post outlines some of the steps you can take to usher in the warmer weather.

What to Do to Spring Forward into Cycling

The damage that can come from disuse can lead to problems and injuries in the future. When you take your bike out for spring riding, give it a good check up and make sure it is ready to go. Check these things:

  • Brakes

Make sure your brakes are in good working order. This is one of the most important steps towards preventing accident and injury.

  • Tires

Make sure your tires are free of punctures and full of air.

  • Chain

Oil and lubricate your chain. Do any necessary cleaning and make sure it is running smoothly.

  • Handlebars

Make sure the grip on your handlebars is in good condition, and that they are aligned with your wheels.

  • Helmet

While it is not technically part of your bicycle, your helmet is an extremely important part of any ride. One of the best ways to spring forward into cycling is to invest in new, safe bike helmet.

Getting Back into Cycling Shape

Last month, our attorney Russ Hymas wrote about getting into cycling shape. An effective exercise regimen is one of the best ways to kick-start a new cycling season. Start out small, and work up to your goals and where you ultimately want to be. If you are anything like us, your physical fitness needs a tune-up, just like your bicycle, before embarking on long bike rides. Take one step at a time and you’ll get there.
